I went with Andrew down the Allagash river last May 2025. Andrew knows the river very well. He sets up an amazing campsite. He has knowledge of the safety on the river in reference to wind and waves. I would describe the trip as rugged, beautiful and peaceful having the right gear such as a rain outfit and muck boots makes the trip quite comfortable. Adding in an extra day allows you to avoid paddling on a rainy windy day. As it was on day three we found out that a northeaster was rolling through so we got up the next morning and was on the river by 7 AM and managed to paddle all the way through to the takeout 42 miles downstream reaching it by 8:30 at night just as the sun was going down, saving us from spending a day out in a storm. But that day was special because we got to see so much of the river.
